Great Advice on What Not to Do

These are a few of my favorite Wattpad advice stories:

1. The Wattpad Writers Rant
This book is full of tips on what not to do in a Wattpad story, and it makes references to Harry Potter and Billy Joel. Win.

2. How Not to Write a Wattpad Story
This is the best parody of a Wattpad Story I have ever read. It's hilarious and informative.

3. How to Write the Hottest Story on Wattpad
Filled with sarcasm, this story touches on some of the most popular topics on Wattpad.

If you know of any other great advice stories or parodies, leave a link in the comments!

I Need Your Help!

Here's the deal: I want to make this blog as interactive and helpful as possible, but I need your help to do that. I have a few ideas for what I want to include, so leave a comment here or send me a message on Wattpad if you want to contribute. This is what I'm looking for right now:

  1. Authors/Readers to Interview
  2. Questions about Wattpad or The Watty Awards
  3. Suggestions for the blog
I'm not looking for books to review just yet; I'm positive I can find those when I look for them.

These are some of last year's Watty Award winners. Each category winner received $200.

The Bro Code: First Impression

The Bro Code, by joecool123

Description: "Rule number 4: 'If a girl falls into the following criteria, she is off limits forever until the end of time: A. Was a bro's ex-girlfriend. B. Your bro specifically told you he wanted her. C. Is your bro's sister.' Eliza O'Conner happened to be all three. Nick Maguire, the king player of East High, knew better than to fall in love. So then what was he doing with the sister of his best-friend? And how far would he go to keep it a secret?"

The use of the popular unwritten "bro code" immediately draws me in.

The first chapter is cute, though perhaps a bit cliche.

The grammar gets a 4/5. Spelling is mostly correct, but there are a number of run-on sentences and patches of awkward wording.

The narrator does a little too much "telling" about his feelings for Eliza. His descriptions of her and his crush on her are a little cliche, but the sporadic humor does keep it interesting. So far, the story could be going anywhere, but it doesn't sound like it'll be getting out of this little town and high school. If it stays this funny, we shouldn't have a problem, but if it gets too serious, we're left with nothing but high school drama, and that is something that Wattpad and the rest of the world has enough of already.

However, this book is quite popular on Wattpad right now, so I'll assume that the rest of the story is top-notch. When I get to the end, I will decide if it's worth recommending.

Ten Tips for Wattpadding

In honor of the creation of this blog, I would like to present my ten pieces of advice to anyone seeking popularity on Wattpad.

  1. Use spellcheck. Shockingly, many wattpad users get really sick of reading stories that sound like text messages.
  2. Stop writing about vampires! No one cares anymore.
  3. If you ask someone to read your book, address them personally and with correct grammar.
  4. Advertise on your Facebook! Your friends are typically your biggest fans, at least at first.
  5. Don't post an entire book at once. Post one chapter at a time and try to update regularly. This keeps your audience interested.
  6. Message your fans, yes, but only if you have something to say. If you have a question, suggestion, or update on your book, let them know, but no one is going to read a paragraph about your Aunt Mildie's disgusting banana bread.
  7. Respond to your fans. If someone fans you, thank them. If they comment, answer it. Even if they send you hate mail, give them some sort of sarcastic response just to make yourself feel better.
  8. Please don't tell the same scene from three different perspectives. It gets old.
  9. Keep your chapters at about two to four pages. The internet attention span will not read longer than that unless it is amazing, and shorter is just annoying.
  10. If your title is as long as this sentence, you need to find a new hobby.

Just a few things to keep in mind! Happy Wattpadding!
